Another month. Another Ipsy bag!
I am a bit late in writing this month’s post, and I have two more beauty posts coming right behind it. With the Sephora Sale on & another Boxycharm box arriving in the mail, it’s been a makeup heavy month. But do I mind? Not in the least 🙂
Ok so lets start with the bag.
It is probably the best quality bag I have received from Ipsy (this is probably my 12th or 13th bag). It feels heavier and well made. I love the grey toned purple backside with the metallic pink accents. Unfortunately for me (if you saw my Instastories) you know I hate butterflies. Ok hate is a strong word. Dislike. I think it comes from my dislike of moths (think child long thick hair moth stuck) yeah not my greatest childhood memory. I will just add this to the pile of bags going to my nieces–that is where last month’s bad resides as well.
The more important part- The Contents.
First outside of the bag was a R&L Moda M19 Shader brush. This is the same brand as last month’s fan brush. Just like the fan brush, it is super soft and with the tapered end I feel like I will be able to blend well with this brush.
Next I received a blush from Steve Laurant in the shade I’m Blushing. I like that the compact comes with a mirror. Although small, I think it would be great if you were looking to get precise application. It does seem to be quite sparkly in the pan, but when swatched and blended it isn’t super glittery which makes me hopeful that it won’t show chunky glitter when on my face. I do like the shade, mainly because I don’t have anything this deep, so it is a great addition to my collection. (Also not at all important to the blush, but the compact has a very satisifying click when closed and feels like it wouldn’t open by mistake in a bag)
Onto lips. I received Aurora for all lip lovers Lively Lipstain 24H in the shade Soft Pink. The colour indicator on the packing is a little deceiving. It shows a purple tone pink, however it is much deeper on my skin- and more red toned. I did try it on paper though and it seems to be truer to packaging, so maybe if you are super pale this shade may show more true on you.
I received two skin-care type products. I think this may be the first time were I have received more then one skincare product. But I could be wrong.
The first is Nots Once Finishing Cream SPF30. I think the finishing cream part is what is confusing me on this product. I had to read the back to find out it is just sunscreen, because the finishing cream made me think of Josie Maran’s Finishing Balm. I still need to read up on this product to figure out how to apply it and also why it is green.
And the last product in my new bag- Biorace Pore Tightening Pearl Clay Mask. I was suprised when I opened this to find it was brown and I actually read the name of the product again because I was thinking Charcoal when I opened it. However it does say clay mask. I have dry skin–and extremely dry skin at the moment–so I will be waiting a bit to try this one out.
OK So how did I make out with March’s bag.
I like the brush. I think I mentioned it was my first fan brush, so I don’t have a lot to compare it to, but I like it for a subtle highlight. It doesn’t hold or disperse as much products as the Real Techniques brush I was using. Which is fine because I really am into the barely highlighter look. I will say that it doesn’t pick up and much product so I do have to go back a couple times.
INT Cosmetics Shade Goddess Gold. Honestly until I was writing this post I completely forgotten about that eyeshadow. Probably because it is in my least favourite type of packaging- plastic case. I really need to get a magnetic palette so I can remember these shadows. It wouldn’t be my first pick of shadow either because as I mentioned in my first post it is similar to Amber Rush and AR is my go to when I want a look like this.
Next the product I was most disappointed with in the bag. The lipstick. I don’t know if I have ever tried a more horrible lipstick then this one. I mentioned in my reveal that I was going to wait until my lips were less dry because this was a matte lipstick, and I did–but wow. I have never felt anything so drying as this product. It went on like chalk and looked like it on my lips. Prior to putting it on my lips looked fine. But it showed EVERY little dry spot on my lip and kind of pulled up the skin. I even tried it on after a balm and still it was chalky. Its a shame, because the shade is pretty.
The lipbalm on the other hand feels nice on the lips and I have even used it on my cuticles and it is very hydrating. I can see why people like the Balm Dotcom. But I will probably get more use out of this on my cuticles then my lips- because I do not like Rose at all. Also a pretty good dupe for this product would be Vaseline Lip Care in Rose which I would prefer as it doesn’t have as much fragrance to it. I find the Balm Dotcom smells like potpourri.
Onto the most loved from the bag. Tarte’s Sex Kitten Eyeliner. I used this to tightline for a look the other day and it went on so creamy as easily. It smudged out nice where I wanted but dried down and stayed in place. I do think my NYC does just as nice of job but I did like this one too.
So what was the true value of last month’s bag to me (What products will I keep and use)
The Brush 5.99
Which gives the bag a value of 19.99 for me. I decided not to include the lip balm, just because of the smell I will probably end up passing it on to my nieces because even on my cuticles the smell just isn’t appealing to me and I would be forcing myself to use it just because.
This definitely wasn’t the most valuable bag for me & I am a bit worried for the value of April’s bag but we shall see once I have some time to play with the products.
